In a world first, Colombia and the Netherlands are co-hosting a global conference on transitioning away from fossil fuels in Santa Marta, Colombia, on April 24–29.
Building on the momentum from COP30, this historic conference brings together committed countries, subnational governments and other stakeholders that recognize the need to implement a transition away from fossil fuels in a just, orderly, and equitable manner – in line with climate goals and the best available science by scaling up climate solutions (which contribute to economical growth, jobs, security and prosperity).
As the conference’s Official Global Media Partner, We Don’t Have Time, together with partners, aims to amplify key moment and voices from the conference to build momentum behind the implementation of a global transition away from fossil fuels.

What if destroying ecosystems were a crime? This session explores the recognition of ecocide as a legal framework to protect biodiversity, forests, and the atmosphere. From fossil fuel projects threatening the Amazon to the environmental destruction caused by war, we will examine how legal accountability can shift power, prevent ecological destruction, and safeguard communities and the planet.
The discussion will highlight the challenges, opportunities, and the transformative potential of holding governments and corporations responsible for ecological harm.
Who gets to shape climate and energy decisions, and who is left out? This session explores how diplomacy and new leadership can center impacted communities in decision-making, from Indigenous Peoples and Afro-descendant communities to women, youth, workers, farmers, fishers, people with disabilities, and colonized or occupied peoples.
Drawing on examples such as recent Vatican initiatives, this session will examine how including diverse voices can transform policies, challenge power structures, and ensure that climate solutions are equitable, just, and accountable to those most affected.
During the academic pre-conference held in Santa Marta on April 24 and 25, one workstream was specifically dedicated to methane and superpollutants as a means of rapidly reducing the average temperature on our planet. As high-level dialogues are wrapping up here in Santa Marta, it is time to look at what comes next in this process. As another conference is already planned in Tuvalu, and nations are preparing their delegations for COP31 in Turkey in November, the work is far from finished.
