Hi, my name is Nancy Metayer Bowen, and I am happy to share with you how we in the City of Coral Springs, Florida, US, work systematically with our community to keep people safe and flourishing in terms of energy for cooling, which we see as a major health issue. We also work with financing and grant programs to keep cooling installations and housing resilient over time. To be successful, we need to be as innovative as possible and make good use of the resources we have.
We see this as an investment for the future, and we understand that climate change is not a siloed issue; it affects every aspect of our lives. It is a threat multiplier affecting food and housing. When we communicate that it is an economic as well as an environmental issue, people are more receptive to that message.
The end goal is to make our city and the inhabitants more resilient!
Questions for reflection:
How could your city do more to see investments today as building resilience to shocks for your residents in the future?
What about using Coral Springs' way of communicating economic effects and solutions, together with environmental effects? What could that bring to your community?
